we are developing our own UIS (Universal Ignition System) based on domestic COTS (Commercial Off-The Shelf) components. In lieu of the Gen1’s A-Racer ECU, we have selected the fully programmable MicroSquirt ECU from US-based MegaSquirt corporation. To bypass failed Gen1 MAP sensors and associated PCBs, we have sourced a commonly available MAP sensor that will be externally plumbed. Coils will be standard high-output IGN1A coils of the type used on outboard engines. The coils can be triggered by the URAL Hall Effect camshaft sensor or magnetic reluctance flywheel sensor.The Ducati CDI unit is not required. The electronics in the Gen1 throttle bodies are completely bypassed, even the connectors can be cut off. In conjunction with wiring harness mods and some vacuum plumbing lines, our UIS is a complete/end-to-end solution and upgrade for URALs with non-op Gen1 FI systems.We currently have the UIS installed on a carbureted 2003 Gear Up. In two weeks, we will install it on one of the two “dead” Gen1 Gear Ups we have in-house for repair.
